Resolution Resources

Conflict Happens! And when it does, the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities is here to help. Our office collaborates with campus partners to provide a varitey of resources and referrals to help address conflict before it happens, while it is in progress, and after an incident to help restore and rebuild. When the goals of conflict resolution can not be met and/or if an incident warrants it, a case may be initiated with our office (student conduct), the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD), Human Resources, and/or the Academic Personnel Office.

If you are in need of some assistance or if you would like to schedule an intake meeting to assess your resolution needs, please send an email to ossr@ucmerced.edu

Preventing Conflict

Our Office provides a workshop for students to explore conflict before it happens and how to deal with it when it does. In addition, we offerr resources for students where we see conflict often such as class group projects and roommate/housemate agreements.

Managing Conflict

Are you currently experience conflict?  In addition to a consult, we offer a workshop for student leaders and managers to help their team move through the "storming" phase. A 3Practices Circle might also serve as an opporunity for your group or club to share their difference and help members to understand differing viewpoints. is your conflict a grievance?  We can discuss with you the student grievance process and hope to bring resolution. Campus resources are also available to help while managing conflict.

Restoring After Conflict

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities at UC Merced supports the building and strengthening of our campus community through the use of restorative practices. Students, Fauclty and Staff have the opportunity to explore options that allow them to acknowledge personal accountability for harm done, understand the impact of their actions on others and the larger community, and as appropriate, take steps to repair harm and rebuild trust.  This process allows participants to re-engage and reinvest in their community taking more personal responsibility for their actions moving forward.
