Advisor Information

UCM Students and the Student Conduct Process:

As a UC Merced student, you have the right to bring an advisor or request an advisor for all meetings that you have with our office. If you want to do this, you will need to complete a form granting permission for your advisor to be present during the meetings. This form must be filled out and presented prior to the start of your meeting with our office. It is also advised that you and your advisor complete the Advisor training from our office to clearly know what is expected of an advisor.

Key Elements to Being an Advisor:

At all stages of the process, a student has the right to an advisor. Here are some key elements to who the advisor can be and what their role is.

  • The advisor may be any person (including an advocate, attorney, friend, or parent), except a person with information relevant to the alleged policy violation.
  • The advisor’s primary role is to provide guidance to the student throughout the process. The advisor may not speak on behalf of the student at any time in the conduct process.

Interested in Becoming an Advisor?

The University has an obligation to provide an advisor to any student that requests one when meeting with our office. If you are a staff/faculty member and are interested in becoming an advisor, please reach out to our office to learn more.
